Empowering youth
Young people are not simply the future of West Vancouver — they are active participants in shaping it today. I believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to develop their voice, their confidence, and their sense of civic belonging, and that it is the responsibility of local government to create the conditions in which that can happen.
With experience moderating international youth roundtables on climate and sustainable development, leading the United Nations Education for Sustainable Development program, and speaking in local schools about my work at the United Nations, I bring both global perspective and local commitment to this priority. As a Councillor, I will advocate for expanded youth engagement in municipal decision-making, seats for youth on community boards and advisory groups, and school partnerships that connect young people to the issues that will define their generation.
Community inclusion
A thriving community is one where every resident feels genuinely seen, heard, and valued. I believe that inclusion is not a program or a policy add-on; it is the foundation of a cohesive and resilient West Vancouver.
Having served on the West Vancouver Community Engagement Committee and volunteered with the Hockey for Autism program, I have worked hands-on to build bridges across difference at the local level. My career, which spanned postings in Denmark, Kenya, and the United States included deep engagement with youth and immigrant communities, and further deepened my understanding of what meaningful inclusion requires. As Councillor, I will champion accessible public spaces, barrier-free community services, and engagement processes that reach residents who are too often left out of civic conversation.
Global responsibility
West Vancouver exists within a wider world, and the decisions made at the municipal level, on land use, procurement, climate commitments, and community partnerships, carry real global weight. At the same time, the human rights based approach and commitment to ethics that form the basis of United Nations work, provides important lessons that I will apply here in West Van. I believe that thoughtful local governance is an expression of global citizenship.
As President and CEO of the United Nations Association in Canada, and with over two decades of experience working with the UN and the World Bank, I bring an unmatched depth of global expertise to local office. As Councillor, I will ensure West Vancouver’s policies align with Canada’s international commitments, pursue partnerships that leverage global best practices for local benefit, and position the District as a model of responsible, forward-thinking governance on the world stage.
Environment and liveability
West Vancouver’s extraordinary natural environment, its forests, shoreline, and mountain ecosystems, is both its greatest asset and its most pressing responsibility. I believe that protecting this environment and ensuring a high quality of life for all residents are not competing goals, but deeply connected ones.
My career has been built on this conviction. I have presented on sustainable cities at the World Congress of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) and lectured on financing environmental projects in cities at the C40 Mayors Summit in Copenhagen. With the UN I worked directly on urban sustainability projects including Kenya’s plastic bags ban, and Morocco’s green campus initiative. As Councillor, I will bring that same rigour to West Vancouver, championing evidence-based climate action, protecting green spaces and biodiversity, and ensuring that the District’s growth and development decisions prioritise long-term liveability for current and future residents alike.
